The Band Perry Interview Friday 25th Feb – 2012

Spritely, charming and full of life is how we would describe the immensely talented ‘The Band Perry’ after they spoke to us folk here at Get Country. Taking time out of there busy touring schedule to catch us up on all the gossip from the road, Kimberly Perry, Reid Perry and Neil Perry spoke to us about the keeping things in the family and loving country music from its roots up…

How would you describe yourselves to fans?

Kimberly: Well we are The Band Perry and we have myself Kimberly, and Reid on bass. Then there is Neil he is the baby and the trouble of the group as well as the drummer. We are a modern country band who is in love with the history of the music, everything we listen to that inspires us is maybe 20 or 30 years old and we take a lot from that but with a modern voice.

What is it like to be in a band with your close family?

Kimberly: There are advantages, we have been on the road together for about 13 years and that means we know each other so well. When we are onstage we can give each other little looks and we know what it means, so if we need to tell someone to turn it up or down we can.
Neil: …and because we are family we can be blunt with each other, we can get straight to the point without offending anyone. Also If someone’s having a bad day we know each other so well we know best how to turn that person around into having a good day.
Kimberly: We also have the same ideals and of course we are a democracy, or we try to be. There is 3 of us so we all get a vote or sometimes we do rock paper scissors and if that doesn’t work we have a great solution which is our mother Marie, she comes in pretty quick and straightens us out.

Tell us about your self-titled debut album?

Kimberly: Yeah it went platinum in the US and with a first album you never really know what to expect so that was amazing
Reid: At the minute we are working on our second album, writing, recording that kind of thing and we looking at a fall release with that.

You are also touring for a large part of 2012 with Brad Paisley is that exciting?

Kimberly: Yes we are actually about 1 month into the tour right now, we are actually in Madison Wisconsin and we are having the best time. Brad Paisley is one of the most talented, kind and most generous people we have ever met. Scott McCreery is on the tour as well and it’s all just great.

What is better touring or being in the studio?

Reid: For us we grew up playing shows; on the road is where we started and where we belong.
Kimberly: We also write best on the road – so the two work together. The road is the best place to work on arrangements for our songs and find out what works well and what the audience and the fans respond to.

What are the rest of the plans for The Band Perry in 2012?

Neil: Well we are heading over to the UK this year, our album will be coming out over there and we are going over to support it and hopefully play a few shows to people.
Kimberly: Yes this year will hopefully see us becoming an international act!

What artists inspire you all at the minute?

Kimberly: We love Eric Church, he is a great friend of ours and an incredibly talented individual, we are huge fans of his. Also the Zac Brown Band are one that we all listen too.
